It starts with the relationship…

Creating space for a parent and their infant or child is at the forefront of dyadic therapy. Taking a holistic approach, sessions begin with getting to know the parent, their own history and how they perceive the behavior of their infant/child. Understanding and respecting that the parent is the expert in their child’s life, we observe the parent-child interaction with empathy and positive regard. We use reflective curiosity to think together about the various interpretations of behavior and work to distinguish the parent’s own thoughts and feelings from their child’s experience.

Enhancing the quality of the parent/child relationship we can address the challenges faced by caregivers such as sleeping disturbances, tantrums or emotional dysregulation. Dyadic therapy offers the opportunity to expand sensitivity and compassion for not only the child’s experience, but also the parent’s. As a result, parents notice significant improvements in their ability to enjoy parenting their child, even during difficult moments.
