“Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.”
Working in peoples homes for 10 years offered me the ability to get creative in our space. Shoes off, eating snacks, sitting on floors, lying in the grass or taking a walk was a frequent experience within my therapy sessions. Moving to my own space, I was determined to do my best to re-create the experience of home for clients. It is paramount to me that clients feel safe, secure and comfortable when working with me.
Should we meet in-person you can find my office nestled on the third floor of the historic Montgomery Building located in the eclectic Lower East Side. I encourage people to bring whatever they need to relax, but if you forgot I always have water, tea and seltzers to offer you, as well as granola bars, cozy blankets to curl up in, stones to hold, plushies to squeeze and essential oils to smell. All intended to provide a sensory integrated experience as we engage in some hard work together.
And if the weather permits, ask me if we can go for a walk and talk! Walking while talking about difficult things can help us to feel fully connected in our mind and our body.
Remember, therapy can be fun too!
